BioShock on PS3 is a first-person shooter developed by 2K Boston (formerly Irrational Games) and published by 2K Games. It was released for PlayStation 3 on October 21, 2008 in North America and October 24, 2008 internationally. The game is set in 1960 in Rapture, a dystopian underwater city built by businessman Andrew Ryan, where players assume the role of Jack, a plane crash survivor who must navigate the decaying metropolis while fighting genetically modified citizens called Splicers and giant machines known as Big Daddies. The game features a unique combination of weapons, plasmids (genetic modifications that grant superpowers), and hacking mechanics. Players can approach encounters with stealth, direct combat, or environmental manipulation. The PS3 version includes all the content from the original 2007 PC/Xbox 360 release, with slightly improved graphics and performance. The game received universal acclaim for its narrative, themes, visual design, setting, and gameplay, and is considered one of the greatest video games ever made.
