Common Errors

crash causes and fixes. read before asking.

VCRUNTIME140.dll / MSVCP140.dll not found

Cause

Missing Visual C++ Redistributable 2015–2022.

Fix

Install both x64 and x86 versions from the Redistributables page.

d3dx9_43.dll (or similar d3dx*.dll) not found

Cause

Missing legacy DirectX components. Modern Windows doesn't include these by default.

Fix

Run the DirectX End-User Runtime installer from the Redistributables page.

xinput1_3.dll not found

Cause

Same as above — legacy DirectX component.

Fix

Run the DirectX End-User Runtime installer from the Redistributables page.

MSVCP110.dll / MSVCR110.dll not found

Cause

Missing Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable — an older version not covered by the 2015–2022 package.

Fix

Download VC++ 2012 from Microsoft directly.

openal32.dll not found

Cause

Missing OpenAL audio library. Used by some older games for positional audio.

Fix

Install OpenAL from the Redistributables page.

XINPUT1_4.dll not found

Cause

Missing controller/input runtime. Usually needed by games that support Xbox controller input.

Fix

Run the DirectX End-User Runtime installer from the Redistributables page.

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)

Cause

Architecture mismatch — a 32-bit process is trying to load a 64-bit DLL or vice versa.

Fix

Install both x64 and x86 Visual C++ Redistributables. If it persists, try reinstalling DirectX runtime.

Game launches then immediately closes (no error)

Cause

Usually a missing runtime, an overlay conflict (Discord, Steam, MSI Afterburner), or a missing crack/patch.

Fix

Disable overlays, run as administrator, and check the Repack Notes on the game's page for any required extra steps.

Black screen on launch

Cause

Fullscreen exclusive mode conflicts, outdated GPU drivers, or resolution mismatch.

Fix

Try Alt+Enter to toggle windowed mode. Update GPU drivers. Check if the game has a config file to force windowed.

Entry point not found / procedure missing

Cause

A DLL version mismatch — the game is loading a different version of a library than expected.

Fix

Reinstall Visual C++ Redistributables (both x64 and x86). Make sure Windows is up to date.

Access is denied

Cause

Game is installed in a protected directory — Desktop, Program Files, or inside a OneDrive-synced folder.

Fix

Move the game to an unprotected path like C:\Games\. Windows restricts write access in certain folders which breaks saves and runtime files.

Windows protected your PC (SmartScreen warning)

Cause

The executable is unsigned — SmartScreen flags anything without a verified publisher signature.

Fix

Click "More info" then "Run anyway". This is normal for repacked games. If you're uncomfortable, add a folder exclusion in Windows Security instead.

Game requires administrator privileges / UAC prompt blocks it

Cause

Some games need elevated permissions to write to certain paths or run certain services.

Fix

Right-click the executable and select "Run as administrator". For a permanent fix, go to Properties → Compatibility → check "Run this program as an administrator".

Severe stuttering or freezing (especially on first run)

Cause

Shader compilation — normal on first launch for modern games. The game is building its shader cache.

Fix

Let it run for a while. It gets better after the first session. If it persists, check pagefile size.

Low FPS despite decent hardware

Cause

Background processes, power plan set to balanced/power saver, or GPU not being used (integrated instead of dedicated).

Fix

Set power plan to High Performance. Force the game to use your dedicated GPU via NVIDIA/AMD control panel.

Audio crackling or cutting out

Cause

Audio buffer too small or Windows sample rate mismatch with what the game expects.

Fix

Go to Sound settings → your output device → Properties → Advanced, and set the sample rate to 44100 Hz or 48000 Hz. Try both.

Extremely long loading times

Cause

Game installed on a slow HDD, or Windows pagefile is too small causing it to use disk as RAM.

Fix

Move the game to an SSD if possible. If not, increase your pagefile size: System Properties → Advanced → Performance → Virtual Memory.

Game won't boot — missing firmware

Cause

RPCS3 requires an official PS3 firmware file to function.

Fix

RPCS3 needs the official Sony PS3 firmware (the .PUP file) to access PS3 system modules — this is different from jailbreak firmware and can't be substituted. Download it from PlayStation's official site and install it via RPCS3's File menu → Install Firmware.

Game crashes or freezes mid-gameplay

Cause

RPCS3 compatibility varies by title. Some games are not fully playable yet.

Fix

Check the RPCS3 compatibility list for your specific game. Try different renderer settings (Vulkan vs OpenGL).

Graphical glitches or corrupted textures

Cause

Renderer or resolution scale settings incompatible with the specific game.

Fix

Drop resolution scale to native (1x) and try switching between Vulkan and OpenGL in RPCS3 settings.

steam_api.dll / steam_api64.dll not found

Cause

The Steam emulator DLL was quarantined or deleted by antivirus. This file is what makes cracked games think Steam is running.

Fix

Add the game folder as an exclusion in your antivirus, then restore the quarantined file from your antivirus history or Windows Defender's Protection History. If it's already gone, re-extract the game.

Failed to initialize Steam / SteamAPI_Init() failed

Cause

Steam emulator (Goldberg, Codex, etc.) isn't configured correctly or the steam_api DLL is missing/wrong version.

Fix

Make sure the correct steam_api.dll is in the same folder as the game executable. Do not move files around after extracting.

The game requires a valid Steam installation

Cause

Launcher or stub is looking for an actual Steam client instead of the emulator.

Fix

Check the Repack Notes — some games need a specific crack applied after install. Make sure you're running the cracked executable, not the original.

Denuvo error / tamper protection triggered

Cause

Denuvo's Hypervisor protection detected an issue with the bypass.

Fix

Check the HV page and follow the guide exactly. HV games require a specific bypass process — it's not a standard install.

EasyAntiCheat / BattlEye initialization failed

Cause

Anti-cheat service trying to start when it shouldn't. Cracked versions typically bypass or stub these out.

Fix

Make sure you're using the cracked executable. If the repack includes an AC bypass, apply it. Running the vanilla executable won't work.

Please insert the correct disc

Cause

Leftover disc check in the executable that wasn't fully patched.

Fix

You're probably running the wrong executable. Look for a cracked .exe in the game folder, or check the Repack Notes for which file to launch.

Game works but saves aren't kept between sessions

Cause

The crack is writing save data to the wrong path, usually because the game folder is in a protected location.

Fix

Move the game folder out of Program Files or the Desktop — put it somewhere like C:\Games\. Some cracks can't write to protected directories.

Game was working, now it crashes after an update

Cause

You updated the game through Steam or a launcher, replacing the cracked executable with the original.

Fix

Never update cracked games through official launchers. Re-extract or reapply the crack. Or just don't update if the game plays fine.

CE-34878-0

Cause

Generic PS4 crash error. Usually a bad dump, missing update patch, or a game incompatible with your current firmware version.

Fix

Try installing the required update PKG for the game if available. If the dump is bad, re-download. Check that your firmware version meets the game's minimum requirement.

Fake PKG not recognized / won't install

Cause

Your jailbreak isn't active, wrong HEN/CFW version, or the PKG was built for a different exploit.

Fix

Make sure HEN is enabled before installing. Check that your firmware version is compatible with the PKG type (fpkg). Reboot and re-enable HEN if needed.

"This content cannot be used"

Cause

The game requires a higher firmware version than what's installed on your console.

Fix

Check the game's required firmware version. If your jailbreak doesn't support that firmware yet, you're stuck until a new exploit is released.

Game installs but black screens or freezes on launch

Cause

Missing required update patch, or the base PKG needs an additional fix PKG installed alongside it.

Fix

Check if the game has a required update or patch PKG — some games won't boot from the base PKG alone. Install the update on top.

Corrupted data / installation fails midway

Cause

Incomplete download, bad storage device, or not enough free space on the console.

Fix

Make sure you have enough free space (PKG size + install overhead). Re-download if the file seems corrupted. Try a different USB drive if installing externally.

Save data not working / trophy errors

Cause

Save data is tied to account IDs on jailbroken consoles. Mismatched account or incorrect save resigning.

Fix

Use a save resigning tool to match your console's account ID. Trophy errors are generally cosmetic on jailbroken consoles and can be ignored.

Black screen or game won't load

Cause

Missing or incorrect PS2 BIOS file.

Fix

PCSX2 requires a PS2 BIOS. Source it from your own PS2 console. PCSX2 has documentation on how to dump it.

Graphical glitches or broken geometry

Cause

Hardware renderer incompatibility with the specific game's rendering tricks.

Fix

Switch to the Software renderer in PCSX2 for problem games. It's slower but more accurate.
